Apocryphonia Presents: 'In a Persian Garden', Liza Lehmann's wonderful song cycle of poetry from Omar Khayyám's 'Rubáiyát'
About this event
Come over to Heliconian Hall and spend a wonderful late summer afternoon listening to the beautiful music of Liza Lehmann, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor and Ralph Vaughan Williams.
This concert of late 19th century and early 20th century English music is full of rare and lovely musical treasures, including the Canadian Première of Samuel Coleridge-Taylor's 'Impromptu #2 in B Minor', a piece only recorded last year! Also featured is a sumptuous and sonorous quartet from Ralph Vaughan Williams' rarely performed comic opera, The Poisoned Kiss.
Most of all, you'll want to hear Liza Lehmann's 'In a Persian Garden'! This cycle of solos, duets, and quartets is packed with amazing melodies. The 12th century Persian poet and mathematician Omar Khayyám provides the sublime and profound text, which is amplified and enhanced by Lehmann's music.
