Event description

Description

Free Workshop for all Service Providers and Frontline Professionals working with racialized communities. SAWC developed the project titled “In My Mother’s House: A Story of Forced Marriage, Sexual Violence and Marital Rape” funded by Status of Women Canada. The project is framed on the principles of anti-oppression, antiracism and a feminist framework that speaks to the complexity of the issue of Sexual Violence and Marital Rape as a consequence of Forced Marriage. The project has focused on a large group of the South Asian population experiencing violence in the home. Marital Rape, Sexual Violence as a result of forced marriage appears to be the same on a global scale, however the manifestations and intricacies may be different depending on the reality of women’s lived experiences as it relates to race, gender, class, sexuality, and status in Canada.

Light lunch and refreshments will be provided.
