Join Frances-Anne Solomon and Award-Winning Writer, Director and Producer Pratibha Parmar, for an online Masterclass session in directing and producing taking place on the CaribbeanTales-TV.com platform. A Q&A will follow the discussion.
Pratibha is a British filmmaker who has directed a number of award-winning docu-films for the BBC, Channel 4, PBS as well as European broadcasters. Her credits include Alice Walker: Beauty In Truth, a feature length documentary on the life of Pulitzer Prize winning author of The Colour Purple and includes interviews with Steven Spielberg, Danny Glover and Quincy Jones. Pratibha won several awards, including the Jury Award at the Napa Valley Film Festival for this project.
Pratibha made her debut as a narrative director with her award winning film, Nina’s Heavenly Delights. She is a globally recognised filmmaker and human rights activist and her films Warrior Marks and Khush helped gain much needed rights for women and girls as well as contributing to the visibility of marginalized LGBT communities.
Pratibha’s accomplishments and contributions to film have been recognized with multiple awards. In 2017 she was awarded the ICON award presented by Bagari London Indian Film Festival in Association with the British Film Institute for Outstanding Contribution to Indian and World Cinema.
The year prior, she was included in the BBC’s List of 100 Inspirational and Influential Women and she is the proud recipient of the Frameline Film Festival Award, presented to an individual who has made a significant and outstanding contribution to lesbian and gay media.
A member of the Directors Guild of America, Film Fatales (SF) and a voting member of Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, Praibha made her US debut as a director of scripted television in 2019. She was invited by Ava DuVernay to direct episode 12 of Season Four of Queen Sugar, executive produced by Ava DuVernay & Oprah Winfrey for OWN/Warner Brothers.
Parmar is in post production on the feature film, My Name Is Andrea, featuring Amandla Stenberg, Soko, Ashley Judd, Andrea Riseborough and Christine Lahti. Gloria Steinem & Eve Ensler are Executive Producers.
