Engaging both children and their parents is critical to the success of any active school travel (AST) initiative.

Yet these two groups frequently have unique and different perceptions and concerns when it comes to walking and wheeling to school.

During this webinar we will discover some of the key findings from two recent studies that explored parent and child viewpoints on AST that can help inform your messaging and tactics.

Learn about the key findings from these studies:

  • Western University’s Human Environments Analysis Laboratory (HEAL) interviewed almost 1300 children and their parents from schools across southwestern Ontario as part of a study examining how child and parent perceptions of the barriers to active school travel influence children’s behaviour.

  • Earlier this year Metrolinx engaged The Strategic Counsel to undertake a qualitative focus group-based study to better understand the barriers to switching to active and sustainable modes among parents who drive their kids to school, and to learn more from those who have reduced their driving.
