Event description
A panel discussion and photography exhibition that explores food justice and equity for low-wage restaurant workers.

About this Event

FoodShare is proud to present The Untold Stories of Toronto’s Dishwashers, an extraordinary documentation of some of the lowest-wage workers in the restaurant industry. Photographer Sandro Pehar’s in-depth portraits expose the heart of the busy commercial kitchen where every facet of a restaurant comes together. In doing so, these thought-provoking images honour the unrecognized labour of low-wage employees in the food system.

Panel discussion begins at 6:15pm; seating is limited.

Panelists:

  • Sandro Pehar, photographer
  • Dishwashers featured in the photo exhibit
  • Gilleen Pearce, Better Way Alliance
  • Pam Frache, Fight for $15 and Fairness

The panel discussion will feature a facilitated conversation that shines a spotlight on the experiences and issues of low-wage restaurant workers, specifically dishwashers. The discussion will focus on building a broader understanding of how applying a food justice and equity lens to the restaurant industry can help draw attention to sites of exploitation within the food system, and discuss what steps need to be taken to build equity and food security for those who are involved in the process of putting food on our plates.

The Untold Stories of Toronto's Dishwashers is open to the public at Daniels Spectrum (585 Dundas St E)from October 24th until November 28th, 2019.
