Incubation Ecstatic Dance

Incubation is an ecstatic dance event curated to showcase visual and musical art in cohesion with each participants movement expression. It is an invitation to feel liberated, accepted and aware in our bodies through movement, art and music.

Our intention with Incubation is to fuse together the framework and ethics of "ecstatic dance" with the eccentric and inclusive artistic diversity of rave culture. The music will start slow and nurturing, easing us into our bodies and the space. It will then increase in intensity to help achieve a sense of "ecstasy", if one so desires. By the end, we will be gently brought back down into a state of calm.

There will be no facilitation other than a brief intro/conclusion. This event is an undefined space to move as you feel. Truly. If you want to spend the entire event curled up in the fetal position, that is completely okay. It is called “incubation” for a reason ;)

Our featured DJ, Gasolina, will be taking us on a musical trip through weepy melodies to undeniably danceable rhythms, industrial noises and esoteric sounds.

Our featured visual artist, Aisling Doolan, will be projecting visuals to remind us of our time in the womb. 

IMPORTANT GUIDELINES (please read <3)

• Respect and consent are deeply important to create a safe space for all to flourish safely. Be aware of your surroundings and those sharing the space with you. Ask for consent through clear eye contact and body language. No means no. Accept a "no" with grace and move on. Use your "no" unapologetically, this movement practice is for you first!

• No alcohol/drugs before or during the event. Please contact me if you have any questions.

• Barefoot/socks only please. We wanna roll around on a clean floor <3

• No talking on the dance floor. We are creating an incubator for movement expression, to allow a break from our usual “cerebral” ways of interacting with ourselves and the world. Feel free to make noises, hum, sigh, sing, etc if it feels important to your expression! There will be separate rooms available if you feel the need to talk. 

• Leave your cellphones off and in your bag. Allow yourself a break from your phone.

Tickets are $15-$25 sliding scale. Your generous donation means we can pay our artists and continue to nourish our community.

Event starts at 7PM and finishes at 10PM in The Sanctuary at Church of Truth.
