Description

Indigenous Human Trafficking and Culture-Based Trauma-Informed Practices

ONWA’s Trauma-Informed Training is focused on developing the skills, knowledge and values to support one another in a culturally rooted, wholistic way, and to create a climate of hope and validation while developing culture-based models of restoration and reclamation. This includes:

  • Understanding Indigenous Trauma and trauma effects

  • Culture based models for positive coping strategies and pathways to healing;

  • Relationship-centered planning and goal setting;

  • Creation of safe, validating spaces to support people with lived experiences of trafficking, exploitation, or other forms of violence.

Purpose

ONWA’s Orientation to Indigenous Human Trafficking and Culture-based Trauma Informed Practices aims to bring together staff, partners, stakeholders and the Indigenous Anti-Human Trafficking Liaisons to develop a critical analysis of the underlying issues that perpetuate trafficking and exploitation while also strengthening culture-based practices for incorporating trauma informed practices in our collective work. Participants will be engaged in a journey of experiential learning, self-exploration, and awareness-development as we address intergenerational trauma and exploitation. The training will build on existing skills while increasing awareness of strategies to work with trauma. The training will provide the technical knowledge of trauma and human trafficking and strategies for how to design community-driven approaches for addressing it. Upon completion of the 3-day intensive, participants will collaborate in developing community-driven approaches and strategies to strengthen the network of support, identify individual strengths, and develop effective response models.
