Event description
Learn about how Indigo pigment is different from all other natural dyes, the proper way to prepare and use it to dye fabric.

About this Event

Indigo dye has been used for thousands of years to dye fabric blue. We will learn about how Indigo pigment is different from all other natural dyes, the proper way to prepare and use it to dye fabric. You will learn the Japanese art of Shibori, which is a classic way of making patterns by folding, tying, clamping and sewing fabric. There are many ways to make a successful Indigo vat. In the workshop, we will prepare Indigo in a completely chemical-free way using either a fruit vat or an iron vat. We will also make a standard Indigo vat designed for high production. Materials will be provided, however, feel free to bring one piece of clothing to dye.
