Description

Indigo Shibori (Introductory to Intermediate Level)
Date: June 16, 2018 (Saturday)
Time: 9:00 am to 3:30 pm
Instructor: Tamsin Sloots
Fee: $45 plus HST (Members) | Fee: $52 plus HST (Non Members)

Experience the magic of Indigo dip dyeing through the Japanese art of Shibori! Shibori is an ancient and beautiful resist dyeing technique which is often recognized by its blue and white patterning. Shibori is often paired with an Indigo dye vat, because Indigo is a cold dye vat that offers various shades of blue depending on the number of times a fabric is dipped in the vat and then exposed to air. Indigo is one of the only sources of blue found in the world of natural dye.

In this workshop students will learn how to prepare fabric for dyeing by wrapping, tying, stitching and clamping their fabric, as well as learning the ins and outs of dyeing with a natural indigo vat. Students are asked to bring rubber gloves and a variety of washed, light coloured fabric or yarn, made of a natural fibre such as silk, linen, cotton, or wool that they wish to dye. This could be clothing, yarn, quilting cottons, fabric yardages, etc. The possibilities are endless! (There will be a half hour break for lunch)
