Event description

Description

A common misconception is that we need to be the boss to get the big decisions we want made, and if we're not the boss, we just have to wait patiently to become the boss and/or for a friendly boss to arrive on the scene.

This workshop will introduce you to the secret world of "hidden bosses" and how you can build your influence to get people in positions of authority to make the decisions you know will make the world a better place.

Cost: $50, with invoice to follow by email. Financial assistance may be available. Inquire at info@sseontario.org.

About our Expert

Marjorie Brans is your average Vietnamese-Chinese-German-Scottish-Irish girl with small town Southern roots. She leads the team at the School for Social Entrepreneurs (SSE) Ontario and is the Canadian ambassador for the League of Intrapreneurs. Trained at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, she regularly practiced her influencing skills in trying to advance social and environmental sustainability with Fortune 500 multinational corporations in the financial, retail, extractives, fast-moving consumer goods, beverages, and transportation sectors.

Professionally, Marjorie is most proud of having initiated and led HARITA (now R4), a project backed by global insurance giant Swiss Re. The project succeeded in creating one of the world’s first viable micro-insurance products for climate change adaptation, on the way to being scaled in 5 countries. An evaluation of the first four years of the project by the Rockefeller Foundation showed that compared to farmers not participating in the program, insured farmers increased their savings by an average of 123 percent, and female-headed households increased the area of land they cultivate by approximately 35 percent.

Marjorie has held roles as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at NESsT, a social venture capital fund active in ten emerging economies, and as Senior Policy Advisor at Oxfam in the area of business and global poverty. She is a frequent speaker at industry conferences and academic institutions.
