About Gateway

Gateway to Tourism & Hospitality Jobs for Newcomers is a fully-funded program.

We offer the following services at no cost to you:

  • One-on-one support with a Career Strategist
  • Employment readiness workshops (in-person and virtual) to improve your resume, cover letter and job interview skills
  • Certifications (e.g. First Aid, Food Safe, Serving It Right, etc.)
  • Access to professional training and upgrading (e.g. Introduction to Tourism Micro-Credentials, Business English class, Essential computers skills for the workplace, Customer services basis, Cashier, Barista, Travel Agent, etc.)
  • Mentor and employer matching
  • Introduction to our vast network of professionals who will guide you in adjusting to the Canadian workplace culture
  • Additional supports: bus tickets, PPE/ work gear, licensed childminding services as needed, mental wellness check-in

To participate in the program, you must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Have been in Canada 5 years or less
  • English Level - Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5
  • Live in British Columbia -Metro Vancouver, Greater Victoria, Okanagan, the Kootenays, and Prince George regions
  • Immigration status: naturalized Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or Protected person with a Work Permit valid for one year (from the date joining the program)
  • Seeking entry-level work within the Tourism & Hospitality sector; worked in the field and were laid off due to COVID; or already working in the industry and may require some re-skilling and/or up skilling to improve and retain the job for advancement purposes
