Event Details

Please join us for an information session on Stregthening Families for Parents and Youth (SFPY), a nine week program that builds stronger family connections.

Strengthening Families for Parents & Youth (SFPY) is an evidence based program involving at risk youth ages 12-16 and their parents or caregivers in the same 9 week course! Parents and youth attend sessions separately for the first hour, and then participate together for the second hour. Parents and youth improve family relationships with effective communication, negotiating family rules, and working together to solve problems.

Research trials with 69 families in diverse Toronto agencies (2009-2011) showed:

  • Parents reported they learned effective parenting skills, improved their communication skills and began to understand their teens better
  • Youth felt they had developed improved personal skills, self-awareness, anger management and responsibility

We would like to introduce the program to agencies and community services which may be interested in collaborating to deliver SFPY. Funding is available from Drug Prevention Community Investment Program to support cycles of SFPY in 2013.

Refreshments will be provided. Be sure to check out Market 707 for lunch!

Parent Action on Drugs

Parent Action on Drugs grew out of the concern of a group of parents who were troubled by the growing threat that alcohol and other drugs posed for their school-aged children. Registered as a charity in 1983, today PAD offers a wide range of programs and services aimed at prevention, education and support.
