Event Details

ISSA Ottawa events include a meal to be followed with questions and discussion with the speakers.

For the November Chapter dinner, we will meet the Ottawa Conference and Event Centre for an evening of networking, learning and fun.

Graham Thompson who will be providing the Cloud Security Training at Countermeasure 2017 (https://www.countermeasure.ca/training) will pay us a visit and discuss Cloud Governance.

Have you had a bad experience with vendors? Have you ever struggled with the terms and conditions of your agreements and contracts? We don't think you'll want to miss Rosa Mauro's presentation on vendor selection.

We'll be in Room 106 H. Bring your business cards, come early to network and meet our guests speakers before dinner. A cash bar will be available all evening. Registration is required so that we can provide an accurate headcount for event logistics, space, and meals.

Tickets are limited. Registration closes on November 26.

GRAHAM THOMPSON

Cloud Governance: Closing the Barn Door

Cloud adoption, particularly SaaS has become extremely popular, but has risks that many organizations aren’t addressing properly. In this session, we will look at the common gaps in awareness that cause organizations to have a blind spot in their risk program and how this can be addressed. We will work through the reasons for these gaps, how to discover the SaaS applications currently in use and how to address risk management of these business applications. Finally, we look at the standards that can be used by both private organizations and how American government agencies are streamlining SaaS risk management and assessment.

ROSA MAURO

Risk Management in Vendor Selection

Ensuring the selection of the right vendor for your needs (whether it is for the supply of IT equipment, software or services) can be a mystery. Once selected, managing the vendor poses a series of other challenges. Rosa will provide you with insight on how to ensure you are selecting the right vendor for your needs as well as what terms and conditions you should ensure you have in your contract to mitigate any risks associated with a potentially “bad” vendor..

Bio

The focus of Rosa’s practice is the development and drafting of procurement and construction documents, including tender documents, and related contracts. Rosa has in-depth knowledge of procurement law and the Construction Lien Act. She represents owners, contractors, suppliers, and vendors from a wide variety of industry sectors including all levels of government, healthcare, information technology, transit, and commercial development. She helps her clients to establish goals and achieve them cost-effectively while minimizing their risk exposure. Prior to joining Miller Thomson, Rosa was in-house procurement counsel to a provincial agency and responsible for managing its procurement risk and bidder/vendor disputes as well as developing its procurement policy, guidelines, and template documents, among other things. Rosa has also practised as a solicitor at other prominent Canadian law firms.
