Innovative Strategies for working with

Isolated Caregivers and Vulnerable Seniors

9:00 AM to 4:30 PM

  • Learn strategies when capacity, consent, powers of attorney, confidentiality, the Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee and other complex factors convergence in order to achieve an effective elder abuse intervention outcome. True-to-life case studies will be used to demonstrate how these variables interact and used as tools to help keep older adults safe and free from abuse.

  • The Meaning of Me, a senior centered model of care that focuses on the unique attributes and experiences of each senior with fluctuating capacity in order to engage them to reduce isolation and participate in their own care.

  • A new framework called “I-SEE-U” helps front-line staff recognize and respond to the risk factors contributing to high stress and isolation in family caregivers of individuals with dementia. Decreasing caregiver stress could serve as a preventative approach to moderating the risk of elder abuse or mistreatment. Case studies and interactive exercises will be used to show the efficacy and effectiveness of this tool.
