Insight Dialogue Kalyanamittata Retreat - CHATHAM
Fri, 7 Apr 2017, 7:00 PM – Sun, 9 Apr 2017, 10:00 PM EDT
In this non-residential retreat we will meditate with each other – not side by side and separate, but fully engaged and truly meditating together. We will cultivate mindfulness, calm concentration, inquiry, energy, and other meditative qualities, interweaving Insight Dialogue, silent meditation, short periods of walking, and mindful movement. This is a chance to engage firsthand with the relational foundation of our humanity, and investigate the Buddhist concept of Kalyāṇamittatā or “spiritual friendship.” These practices support you to remain present with others even in difficulty, to encounter social eagerness or fear with greater ease, and to recognize natural wakefulness underneath conditioned habits.
Participation: This retreat is suitable for beginners. Please plan to participate from beginning to end.
Format: Insight Dialogue guidelines will be introduced step-by-step and participants will be guided in contemplation. Dharma reflections and time for sharing and Q & A will be provided. The retreat will be partly held in noble silence, except during guided group dialogue and sharing.
Cost: Dana Only. To register a deposit of $40 dollars is required which will be returned when you arrive.
Meals: Vegetarian Soup, Gluten free dessert and Salad will be provided, your are invited to contribute to our potluck or bring something for yourself to supplement the offering.
Teacher: Bhikkhu Sukhacitto is an Insight Dialogue Teacher. He was born in Germany in 1963 and first came into contact with Buddhism in 1986 in Thailand by attending a meditation retreat, offered through Wat Suan Mokkh. He ordained there as a novice in 1989 and as a monk in 1990.
