JENNIFER ANDERSON
Instrumental Alchemy
Experimental improvisational performance
20 Minutes

Show Description
Found bowls of various materials and sizes with handmade elements of oak and piano wire, and
handmade instrument constructed from black walnut, piano wire, and live electronics.

The experimental improvisational performance dives into how handmade instruments have a
relationship with not only each other, but also with a performer that uses their own body to build
a relationship with them.

Biography
Jennifer Anderson is an improvisational experimental musician and instrument builder. Finding
relationships between found objects and their materiality and their sonic qualities is what her
main focus is when building instruments and creating performances based on these qualities.
Sound research is another focus of hers that is found in her improvisational performances where not only the use of space is explored, but also how the body engages with instruments in order to create music and sound.

ALEXANDRE KLINKE
Folk Samples
Music performance
40-45 minutes

Show Description
Field recordings of Brazilian music are the basis for new compositions that investigate the transmuting aspects of technology on culture. Sampled, processed and deconstructed, this music material is combined with live instruments that are also recorded and digitally manipulated, exposing the process of sampling in a live situation.

The songs presented in the show explore themes of identity, memory and transformation. By blending live and pre-recorded material, organic and artificial sounds, and continuously reshaping their form and texture, these pieces represent an ever-changing musical landscape far removed from the folk traditions.

Biography

Alex[andre] Klinke is a Brazilian composer, guitarist and multi-instrumentalist. He creates, records and performs music as a solo artist, and works as a film composer and sound designer.

His music features conventional instrumentation - such as acoustic/electric guitars, bass, percussion and voice - combined with audio samples, virtual instruments, and other electronic elements. A common thread that connects his work is the amalgamation of contemporary music technology with folkloric and early music traditions.
