Event description

Description

Dear Parents and Youth,

We would like to invite you to take part in a focus group, in which we want to gain a better understanding about the opinions of adolescents living with mental illness, as well as their parents, about the process of research participation. What are the benefits, the drawbacks and the barriers to participating in Mental Health research, and how we can we make participation in research easier for those who are interested?

The focus group is part of a larger project whose aim is to identify barriers to the participation of mental health patients and their families in medical research at BC Children's Hospital. We hope to come up with solutions to these barriers through multiple focus groups with patient advocates, healthcare workers, ethicists and hospital staff.

There will be two focus groups taking place at the same time: one for parents of children living with mental illness, and one for adolescents (ages 14-18) living with mental illness. If you are a parent and have a child of age 14-18 whom you think might be interested in attending, you are both welcome to attend.

Food will be provided from 5:00 to 5:30, followed by focus group discussions from 5:30 to 7:30. Each participant will receive a $25 gift card. If you have younger children and require childcare in order to attend the event, please let us know; reimbursement may be available.

We very much hope you will be interested in participating in our focus group and are looking forward to working with you. Your voice matters!

If you would like to sign up via email, as Eventrbrite stores information as a third party for internal purposes only, please email biobank@cw.bc.ca or call 604 875 2000 ext 6423 if you have any questions.

Yours Sincerely,

Research team: Suzanne Vercauteren, Evelyn Stewart, Jehannine Austin, Tamsin Tarling, Michelle Dittrick, Frances Lasser and James Shih.
