Mark Roach

Canadian and US Patent Agent

Mark Roach is a patent agent with Hicks IP, a national top ten-ranked intellectual property boutique firm with offices in Canmore and Calgary. He has a B.Sc. in chemistry from Mount Allison University, a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of South Carolina, and three years of postdoctoral research experience studying catalytic mechanisms of metalloenzymes at the Okazaki National Research Institutes in Japan and the Scripps Research Institute in California. He acquired over 19 years of patent experience working as an in-house patent agent at Ionis Pharmaceuticals in southern California and as an associate at national IP firms in Ottawa prior to moving to Alberta to join Hicks IP in 2013. He has been impressed by the work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit of Albertans and enjoys working directly with inventors and technology transfer professionals to ensure that their patent efforts support their business objectives.
