Description

Interfaith Discussion & Iftar: Solitary Confinement and Mental Health

In parternship with the Justice for Soli campaign, Noor Cultural Centre is hosting this interfaith iftar dinner to raise community awareness about practices of solitary confinement, and the treatment of people with mental health issues in the Canadian prison system.
The Justice for Soli campaign was started to seek accountability for the death of Soleiman Faqiri, a 30-year-old man who died in Central East Correctional Centre (Lindsay, Ontario) in December 2016. Faqiri had been diagnosed with schizophrenia, and had been held in solitary confinement for eleven days before his death.
"Soleiman suffered from a mental illness. He needed a bed and a doctor, instead he got handcuffs and fists" - Justice for Soli campaign
