Hola! my name is Jose Santoyo. I was born and raised in Venezuela! My wife and I moved to Canada eight years ago. Now we are a family of four living in Kitchener, ON. We love this amazing country. I have a bachelor's degree in health and industrial safety.

Teaching has always been one of my biggest passions. I have been teaching Spanish for the last five years. I love sharing my mother tongue and our culture with people. I am always willing to meet people right where they are in their learning journey. I work hard to help all of my students accomplish their goals and see their progress, which is always encouraging when learning a new language or skill. I make sure my classes are fun and engaging. What better way to learn than having fun?

It would be my most tremendous honour and pleasure to work with you and teach you Spanish.

What my students say -

  • Jose is a native Spanish speaker who is passionate about helping others learn the language. He is a kind, considerate person and a talented teacher. He is very approachable and helpful. In his class each student is given a chance to participate in the lesson study, we are able to ask questions and share our ideas. - Valerie James
  • If you really want to reach your goal of learning the Spanish language from beginner to fluency or somewhere in between, this is your chance. A whole new world of opportunity has opened up that was once hidden from me. - David Scattergood
  • It has been a great pleasure to be in Jose’s Spanish classes! Jose is an excellent teacher - not only can he explain the language clearly but also he brings the culture and energy into the classroom, with creativity and a sense of humour. No matter what level of Spanish skills the students may have, he is always able to find ways to have everyone engaged. He is also very encouraging and patient with us - I always finish the class feeling encouraged and inspired. - Vinna Tan
  • Jose is a great Spanish teacher. He will teach you in a way that is fun to learn, not like reading a phonics textbook. He comes up with activities that will help you with all aspects including reading, writing, listening and most challenging speaking. He has a lot of patience. He not only teaches the language strictly but also ties in cultural stories and traditions. The best part is Jose will meet you wherever you are in learning spanish which is key. - Stephan Schnablegger
  • I have been participating in Jose’s Santoyo's Spanish conversation group classes for 5 years. Jose is always prepared for our sessions, with a variety of interesting activities. He is patient, encouraging, with a gentle way of correcting that does not make the learner feel bad for making errors. Our classes have included students with a wide range of abilities; he seems to instinctively know how to adjust his expectations based on personalities, confidence, and learning styles. When I have had extra questions he was always most willing to respond, whether in class or through email. As a former teacher, I have high standards! I highly recommend Jose. - Betty Ann Colquhoun
  • Jose has been teaching me Spanish for a little over 3 years now. He has been an incredible resource for me in my language learning journey. Jose has personally developed an education plan to help improve my listening comprehension, verbal communication as well as my reading and writing skills. Jose is always prepared with learning material that is creative and engaging. He creates an environment that is educational and fun, which is what language learning is all about! - Andy Takhar
  • José is a native speaker from Venezuela. He is also fluent in English. He is always prepared for his classes. Whether we are reading stories, practicing pronunciation, learning new vocabulary, helping us with grammar or learning conjugation of verbs. He is always there to help us. Before the end of the lesson he always takes time to ask if we have any questions. - Isobel Solonik
  • José has offered me the opportunity to follow my dream. Learn and participate in Spanish language and culture. He is a great listener and José has with calmness and joy improved my fluency. José introduces vocabulary and Spanish phrases to allow depth and interest, which allows the conversation to flow. - Cheryl Rollings
