Event description
A free virtual event to inspire and engage young minds and is geared towards anyone with an interest in STEM education.

About this event

The Krembil Research Institute will be hosting a free livestream event on February 11, 2022 in recognition of International Day of Women and Girls in Science. This is an open public education event geared towards high school and early university age students of all genders.

This is a unique opportunity to meet with and hear from trailblazing scientists and clinicians, who are working on ground-breaking discoveries that could help solve arthritis, vision and brain disease.

The virtual event will feature three highly accomplished female scientists and clinicians. Drs. Sindhu Johnson, Tahani Baakdhah and Mary Pat McAndrews will give short TED talk-style presentations on their lives and careers, as well as what inspired them to enter the fields of brain, arthritis and vision research.

The event, moderated by Dr. Eugenia Addy, Chief Executive Officer, Visions of Science, is meant to inspire and engage young minds and is geared towards anyone with an interest in STEM education.

Highlights include:

  • Glaucoma and retinal degeneration
  • Finding better treatments and improving the lives of patients with rheumatological diseases
  • Using brain imaging to examine how memory networks are impacted by disease or therapies

Our goal at UHN is to find new treatments and cures for the diseases that affect us all. Combining basic science and clinical research is how we will make these discoveries together.

‘Science achieves little if it stays in the lab’ and that is our mission - to make science and research more accessible and engaging to everyone, for the benefit of everyone.
