Event description

Description

At IntersectTO, we're envisioning an affordable, accessible community skill-sharing space and workshop series for people of colour in (and interested in) technology. We're starting with some co-design sessions to evaluate what community needs and interests are. Inspired by the Color Coded project in LA, we're hoping that this can be a space for learning tech skills (e.g. web development, digital design), executing projects, as well as a space for critical discussion, talks, and workshops on how technology affects BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and people of colour) communities and those at the margins.

In January, around 25 of us gathered for our first co-design session for imagining what a tech community for Toronto's Black, Indigenous, and POC communities could look like. We ended up with a broad, shared vision for what this community could offer.

This month, we are holding a follow-up session for BIPOC folks to connect and build off of January's session. Specific agenda items that will be discussed include:

- Co-creating a programming calendar and mapping community resources (Who has event ideas or skills they want to share? Who has space they can lend out? What kinds of events do we collectively want to see happen?)

- Discussing organizational structure of IntersectTO

- Discussing a strategy for comms, visual identity, and branding

Anyone who identifies as Black, Indigenous, or as a person of colour who is interested in contributing to this community is welcome to join!

Space is limited. Please register if you intend to join. If you have any questions please send lorrainechuen(at)gmail(dot)com or l.collins.bacchus(at)gmail(dot)com an email.

A big thank you to Canada Learning Code for lending their classroom for the evening.
