Description

Imagine creating a simple machine that will automatically water your plants. Maybe you want to add some lights, sound, or motion to a costume project. Artists, designers, hobbyists, and tinkerers are learning new and easy techniques to bring such projects to life.

Halifax Makerspace, in partnership with Dalhousie Libraries, want to get you started in the basics of electronics and the Arduino platform. Arduinos are a piece of technology that you can fit in the palm of your hand, connecting your project to electronics, giving it “life.”

For four weeks (Feb. 16 - Mar. 9), we’re hosting workshops every Thursday evening. Week One covered the basics of what an Arduino is and what you can do with it. For Week Two we will introduce some new electronic components and teach you more about programming.

Registration is free but seats are limited to 15 people per class. You will need to register for each week you wish to attend. If after registering you are unable to attend please cancel (or let us know) so that someone else can take your seat. "No shows" will be prevented from registering for further sessions.

FAQs

Do I need any prior experience?

If you missed Week One please arrive by 6pm so we can catch you up on the basics. The Arduino was created with hobbyists and artists in mind so that it is easier for non-technical people to get started with it.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

Registration is open to those 16+. If you are a parent/guardian with a child 12-15 who is interested in attending you may register and bring them with you.

What can I bring into the event?

You don't need to bring anything, a computer and all needed equipment will be provided for the session. If you would like to program with your own computer please arrive early so we can have you install the neccessary drivers and software.
