This hands-on introduction is designed for women (cis, trans, and genderqueer) who are looking to learn the fundamentals of audio recording. It combines theory and practice of audio recording. Learn how to connect your equipment and understand signal flow. Learn the techniques and settings for producing audio recordings that sound great.
Minimum equipment is provided, but you are encouraged to also bring your own audio equipment, headphones, and laptop and software, and learn how to make them work during the workshop. This is what makes this workshop special -- Victoria will meet you where you’re at! The focus will be on making great sounding recordings using your own ears and whatever is on hand.
Responding to participants’ needs, the format for this workshop will include a lot of open time for you to ask questions and try your hand at getting your equipment to work, with Victoria providing you assistance.
Learn how a microphone works, and the various ways to use one for different results.
Learn how to connect your equipment and understand signal flow.
You will also be introduced to audio theory, physics of music, audio engineering, and deep listening. You’ll get a hands-on introduction to audio recording software, like Audacity, or Logic—depending on what you want to learn.
Bring a USB memory stick or other external storage device if you want to take home any sounds that you might record.
