About this event
On Sunday, December 18 from 12:45 -2pm, join Massy Arts Society and The Batik Library for a meditative, hands-on session to learn about the art of Indonesian batik.
This introductory level workshop will walk you through the basics of how to use a canting, a traditional pen-like tool used to design batik tulis or "handwritten" batik. You'll also learn about specific batik patterns and the history of how fabric can be used as a form of storytelling.
- 75 minute class
- 1 snack break to process and connect
- Maximum 8 students per session
This workshop is pay-what-you-can with a suggested donation of $25 - $40. Proceeds will be going towards Massy Arts Society’s fundraising efforts to cover rent.
Venue & Accessibility
Registration is pay-what-you-can, open to all and required for entrance. The gallery is wheelchair accessible and a gender-neutral washroom is on-site. Please refrain from wearing scents or heavy perfumes.

Instructor
Bernarda Antony is the founder of The Batik Library and has worked with Indonesian batik since her first collection. Through these traditional motifs, she incorporates legends and folklore into her elegant designs and maintains a connection to her home.
