Participants in this course will learn the basic techniques of making ceramic objects by hand,
without a potter’s wheel. The course will focus on the wide-ranging use of clay slabs, but will
also cover pinch pottery and coil building. Participants will have an opportunity to make a number
of functional items – such as bowls, platters and vases – and to finish them in ceramic glazes
of their own choosing. Along the way, participants will receive tips about handling clay, assembling
their work and applying surface texture and details. The final session is a brief “kiln opening” and
discussion of the fired results, after which participants will take home their hand-built creations.

Great for beginners and those who wish to freshen their skills in order to tackle advanced projects.

Participant Material List:
*Please purchase the following from Arts Underground before the first class*

1 x 22lb bag of clay; includes firing and glazing fees (clay $25 + firing $30)
