Event description

Description

If you've ever wondered how things are made from glass, or if you just want an excuse to play with a 2800C flame in a safe setting, this is the class for you! Due to the dangers involved and the culture associated with glass art, students must be 18 or older. In this class you will learn to use a oxygen/propane torch and other equipment along with fundamental glassworking techniques. We will explore flame chemistry, hot and cold seals, as well as gathering and pulling glass stringers. You will then use these skills to create pendants and marbles. Time permitting, we will also explore silver fuming and sculptural techniques. This is a three hour course. Because we will be working with high temperature flame, you must wear close-fitting flame-resistant clothing such as cotton or wool as well as close-toed shoes, and long hair must be secured. You should also bring a bottle of water. This course will also certify members to safely use the equipment.
