Intro to XC Skiing with Adventure Report
Event Information
About this event
This event is ideal for folks (18+) who are interested in trying out cross country skiing for the first time, or for folks who still consider themselves total beginners (which is why Meg K from @adventurereport will be there! Lol). We will be providing the gear and the know-how so all you need to bring is your sense of adventure.
All XC Ski gear will be provided via the Ottawa Outdoor Gear Library's pop-up shop at the Overbrook Community Centre. You will need to let us know your height, weight, and shoe size as soon as possible after registering so we can ensure to have your size available! A link to a confidential Google doc will be sent along with your confirmation email, please fill this out as soon as possible.
Please also keep an eye on your inbox and your junk mail after you register for this event. We will also be sending you a waiver to sign.
Val Lefebvre is a formerly certified CANSI ski instructor. She's let her certification lapse since life became busy with two kids, but she still knows what she's talking about and will be available as our instructor for the day. During this informal event, Val will walk us through everything we need to know in order to try cross country skiing.
We'll meet at the Community Centre to pick up our gear before driving 5 minutes to the Rideau Winter Trail off of Prindiville Street.
Val will show us how to:-put on our ski gear-get up from the ground if we've fallen-ski with and without poles-go up and down small hills (maybe- if we're feeling brave)
Then, we'll head off on the Rideau Winter Trail (@rideauwintertrail on Instagram) to practice what we've learned for 2.5 km.
If you require transportation to this event, please message Meg on Instagram at @adventurereport or email megk@adventurereport.ca and we will do our best to arrange transportation for you to attend.
COVID Protocol: This event will begin indoors at the Overbrook Community Centre so please don't forget your mask! Outdoors, masking will not be required, but we will respect physical distancing. Proof of vaccination is not required for this event. *Directions may change as we keep an eye on regulations in our city.
