Event description

Description

Coding is one of the most demanded skills of the decade. Are you ready? Code Niagara was born to ensure that Niagara youth are prepared for Canada's digital revolution and we invite you to join us for our first workshop on September 30 for an introductory session on coding. No experience is required, and all materials will be provided. Lunch is also included!

Students will be given an overview on what coding is, how computer science enables so much of the world today and how they can begin to use coding to create programs that help them in their everyday lives.

This session will primarily be based on Scratch programming, which is a free programming language supported by Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. This introductory language helps students visualize their programs through the creation of games, movies and animations. We will explore a variety of projects made by students across the world on this program and contribute several of our own to this growing community.

The session will conclude with a brief introduction to line coding in the Python programming language which is used in a variety of contexts from NASA to Google.
