About this Event

This workshop is for community leaders and community enablers that are wanting to understand what community economic development (CED) is and how they can utilize it in their communities. This module explains what CED is, who is involved in CED, accessing your community’s readiness for CED and organizational structures for CED. This is a Manitoba made community economic program designed for community leaders , municipal elected officals, CAO's, economic development professionals, and anyone who has a passion for economic development.

Meet the Facilitator: Dan Fontaine is the CED Business Development Specialist at the Economic Development Brandon. His role focuses on customer service; marketing; business retention expansion and attraction activities; and business start-up and growth consulting, with the ultimate goal of growing the Brandon business community. Prior to this, he had 10 years of experience in the private sector in the grain business for Cargill, in sales management for Schwan’s Fine Frozen Foods, and Totem Building Supplies. Dan also has eight years of experience in Land use Planning with the City of Camrose, Alberta.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Brandon University and a Certificate in Land Use Planning from University of Alberta. . Dan is a Mission Board member of the Salvation Army, Brandon Citadel, and a long serving member of the Royal Canadian Air Force Reserves and Commanding Office of 82 Brandon Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron. He is a member of Economic Developers Association of Manitoba (EDAM) and Economic Development Association of Canada (EDAC).

This workshop is Module 1 of the Economic Developers Association of Manitoba (EDAM) Community Edge Certification Program. EDAM is an independent non-profit, incorporated association of persons engaged in economic development in Manitoba.

Subsidized program fee: $75/person (regular rate $200/person)
