Description
A 10 class introductory course to Kendo, the Japanese way of the sword, for students ages 16 and older. From this course, you'll learn:
- The basics of kendo etiquette
- The origins of kendo and kendo history
- How to hold a shinai (a bamboo sword)
- How to move your feet, kendo style
- How to strike a blow with your shinai
This course will be taught by world-class kendo instructors and practitioners. Our instructors have been members of Canada's national kendo team and have competed and trained with some of the very best kendo practitioners in the world. This course will be held at the Steveston Martial Arts Centre adjacent to the Steveston Community Centre.
The cost is $110 which include the cost of a bamboo sword (shinai). Those who succesfully graduate from this class with an attendance rate of 8/10 classes, will be invited to join the club as full time members in September. The membership fee from September to December will be $25.

What is the minimum age to attend the course?
For this course, participants must be a minimum of 16 years of age.
What do I wear to kendo class?
Wear comfortable clothes like shorts or track pants. We do not recommend jeans. Do not wear jewellery or watches.
