Natural dyeing uses botanical ingredients, and it's been used for thousands of years. It is 100% natural, chemical free, sustainable.

About this event

Join us at the flower farm to learn the art of making botanical dyes.

Grace Wittig, textile artist of Silk and Sumac, will take us step-by-step through this beginner course. She will teach you scouring and mordanting your cloth, then making and using the dye baths. Plant ingredients for the dye baths will be sourced through foraging, growing your own plants, as well as every day plant based food waste.

You will dye various swatches to take home and a silk square using some simple resist methods.

A snack is provided while materials are being dyed. You'll also have time to wander in the flower patches and pick your own posy of flowers.

All materials are provided. Please bring old clothes or an apron.

Small class size.
