Event description

Description

Some have argued that the discipline or practice that started with the Ancient Greeks and that we call philosophy is today obsolete. Science has all but eclipsed what philosophy can achieve. However, not only does the discipline remain misunderstood, the tools for interrogating the world it has honed through the millennia remain crucial for navigating our information-saturated modern world. Science alone cannot get to grips with the totality of issues that beset us, from questions of morality and social organization to interpreting its own findings. Philosophy, in conjunction with science, remains a powerful and evolving tool for investigating the most fundamental of questions, the inquiry into which has yielded our robust and dynamic civilization. Drop in for a tutorial on the beginnings of philosophy in antiquity to its modern flowering during the Enlightenment onward, and get acquainted with some of the tools and insights it has to offer.
