Introduction to Sensing, Communication, and Analysis of Petroleum Drilling...
Event Information
Description
Approximately 100 to 300 process parameters are continuously measured and monitored during the drilling phase of a petroleum well. In this talk, we introduce the communication network needed to support the sensing, transmission, and analysis of oil and gas drilling data. Topics that will be covered include rig communications, directional drilling, and data analytics.
The speaker of this event:
Stephen Lai leads the Drilling Systems team at Pason. Drilling Systems is an applied research team that develops algorithms for (1) real-time drilling optimization and (2) drilling performance assessment using historical sensor data. Prior to joining Pason, Stephen spent over 15 years developing high-tech products at Nortel and several Silicon Valley/Ottawa startups. He holds a PhD (Electrical) from the Schulich School of Engineering and has authored several SPE and IEEE papers.
