Introduction to Trauma Informed Practice
Event Information
About this event
This day long workshop will introduce participants to trauma-informed practice with supporting theory which can be applied in social work practice. Content will explore how the core concepts of trauma informed practice align with the NSCSW and CASW Values and Principles, three inter-related levels of social work practice (micro, mezzo and macro) as well as foundational theories such as person in the environment. Participants will be given an opportunity to apply principle-based strategies while considering the neurobiological impact of stress and trauma caused by early childhood experiences, historical events as well as current circumstances of the client, their families and our peers. The workshop will also explore how the same theory and concepts can be used to identify workplace stressors and empower participants to address and/or advocate for their own self care needs.
Eligibility:
Must be a member of the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers; all active, associate, retired, and student members are welcome. There is no other prerequisite for this session.
