Intuitive Creating as a Spiritual Practice
Event Information
About this event
We are all creators in our own way, even if not art we are the creators of our own life. Oftentimes we hear of people not creating art because they believe they are not good at it, when in fact you do not have to be “good” at something in order to do it. Over time we often lose touch with our creative side, the parts of ourselves that allow us to make art without attachments, the parts of ourselves that are okay with experimenting, making new discoveries and mistakes. Similarly to when we were a child, creating for the simple joy of creating. In this intuitive creating class we will reconnect with those parts of ourselves that create for the experience of creating something. The biggest takeaway from this class is the importance of presence and to know that we all have the right to create. You may surprise yourself with what you can create!
In this class we will begin with a brief discussion on what intuitive creating is and how creating is a spiritual practice. We will then move into a 5-10 minute guided meditation to help get centered, followed by some warm up exercises. Afterwards we then begin our intuitive creating experience, creating your own intuitive artwork. This is an interactive class where others are encouraged to connect and share.

IMPORTANT!!! Below is a list of supplies to help you brainstorm what materials you want to use. In this class I will be painting with acrylic on canvas , however, you can choose to use another medium for the class. The supply list below is simply a guide and NOT a requirement. You do not have to buy from this supplier. Supplies are available at Wal-Mart, Target, Hobby Lobby, Michaels, Amazon, Dollar General, and many other retailers.
Get creative! When shopping for supplies you may see tools or materials that are not listed below; if they peak your interest, get them! Examples of other materials include: oil pastels, markers, glitter, glues, watercolor, colored tape, etc. (I recommend NO oil paints or spray paints for beginners, only because both are toxic and need to be learned properly). If you decide that you also want to use acrylic paint, I highly recommend getting at least red, blue, yellow, and white paint, that way you can create all the colors on the color wheel. You may also choose to use items you already have in your home as opposed to buying new materials, for example: Use a trash bag or old sheet instead of a drop cloth, or use paper, cardboard, or flat canvas instead of stretched canvas.
There’s no right or wrong here. The goal is to have fun and to create art. There truly are many possibilities :)
