Event description

Description

At the cutting edge of digital technologies is Augmented Reality, or AR. AR is one of the most significant technologies currently in development yet it is one that has received very little policy attention. This nascent technology has the potential to fundamentally redefine our social and economic relationships, the functioning of the state, and our relationship with reality itself. In a post-truth world where opinion bubbles, fake news, and extremism are increasingly pervasive, how does government prepare for a technology that adds new layers to our existing perception of reality? More immediately, what can Canada do to today to prepare for this imminent disruption in a way that enables the benefits of AR while reducing the risk of harm?

The event will take place at the Institute on Governance's ASPIRE Lab at 60 George Street in the Byward Market. The reception will begin at 5:30. The panel begins at 6:00 and will end promptly at 7:00. A networking event among attendees and speakers will follow. This instalment of the Policy Crunch series is proudly brought to you by the team behind the IOG's research and advisory services related to innovation policy and the governance of digital technologies.
