Event description

Description

Artificial intelligence is changing the landscape of policy and economy. With discoveries and capacities that were unimaginable just a few short years ago, business and researchers find themselves operating without the guardrails of government policy. Likewise, governments are challenged by the new and exciting implications of AI and are finding it increasingly difficult with their reduced capacity to deliver on their social compact with the electorate. Is it possible to successfully govern AI-backed technologies with a government that has not been able to adopt AI technologies itself into the policy process? Many question remain unanswered with respect to what AI-enhanced government will look like and what needs to be done to ensure that the public interest is safeguarded as the nature of government continues to evolve.

The event will take place at the Institute on Governance's ASPIRE Lab at 60 George Street in the Byward Market. The reception will begin at 5:30. The panel begins at 6:00 and will end promptly at 7:00. A networking event among attendees and speakers will follow. This instalment of the Policy Crunch series is proudly brought to you by the team behind the IOG's research and advisory services related to innovation policy and the governance of digital technologies.
