Event description

Description

The rapid pace of technological change brings with it a broad suite of economic opportunities as it disrupts old business models and brings new efficiencies to processes, products and people power. While the future may be here already, it is not evenly distributed. While technologically-driven innovation is of great benefit in the aggregate, many individuals bear the brunt of technological disruption while receiving only more marginal benefits from technological progress in return. Making innovation and its benefits more inclusive has developed into an ever-greater priority, especially as populist dissatisfaction with the status quo continues to simmer and be the source of political instability. Even while “inclusive innovation” has wide support, turning this into policy prescriptions and effective programming continues to challenge governments worldwide.

The event will take place at the Institute on Governance's ASPIRE Lab at 60 George Street in the Byward Market. The reception will begin at 5:30. The panel begins at 6:00 and will end promptly at 7:00. A networking event among attendees and speakers will follow. This instalment of the Policy Crunch series is proudly brought to you by the team behind the IOG's research and advisory services related to innovation policy and the governance of digital technologies.
