Event description
Dr. Janice Fiamengo will be talking about Intersectional Feminism and its negative effects in modern society and lack of academic merit.

About this Event

Dr. Janice Fiamengo is a retired Professor of English from the University of Ottawa with a special interest in feminism and its negative impact on men's freedom and identity. Nearly every talk she has tried to give on subjects related to men's issues has been protested.

Dr. Fiamengo has accumulated a large following on Youtube with her channel StudioBrule with controversial videos including "Women's Studies Must Die", "Institutions of Higher Indoctrination", and "What if Men are Smarter."

Dr. Fiamengo argues that although modern feminism claims to promote gender equality, it has been increasingly evident that it has become (or may always have been) a project of collective vengeance no less vindictive--though not yet so violent--as that practiced by tyrannical regimes.

According to her, under feminism's revolutionary aegis, those deemed to have privilege must make amends for their good fortune by accepting a lesser status, fewer life choices, and even the denial of basic rights of speech and association so that those deemed "marginalized" (often pampered products of wealth and ease) can take on positions of power and influence.

The results for academic debate, she continues, have been nothing less than disastrous: the so-called powerless have become increasingly aggressive and punitive in their behavior, while the so-called privileged experience greater and greater restrictions on what they can say, do, and study.

There will be a 1-hour period for questions, prioritising criticisms.

The UBC Students for Freedom of Expression neither endorse nor condemn Prof. Fiamengo's views.
