Event description

Indian Summer Festival 2017

with L. Subraniam & Ernie Watts

SPONSOR: Creative BC

“Each time I listen to L. Subramaniam, I am carried away in wonderment.” – Yehudi Menuhin

“Ernie Watts is one of the greatest living tenor saxophonists at the top of his game.” – Ian Patterson, All About Jazz

Two Grammy award-winning giants come together in a rare concert that brings the best of classical Indian music and jazz to Vancouver.

Dr. L Subramaniam, revered in India as the ‘Emperor of Sound,’ is one of the world’s pre-eminent violinists. He is known for his genre-straddling work, from his Carnatic (South Indian classical) music roots, to compositions for the world’s greatest orchestras including the New York Philharmonic, The Berlin Opera and the London Symphony Orchestra. His collaborations include landmark work with Yehudi Menuhin, Stephane Grappelli, Stevie Wonder and Herbie Hancock.

Two-time Grammy Award winner Ernie Watts is one of the most versatile and prolific saxophone players alive. Watts has made more than five hundred recordings with artists ranging from Cannonball Adderley and Thelonius Monk to Frank Zappa and The Rolling Stones.

Experience a rare evening with maestros who embody the instruments they speak through, accompanied by a roster of outstanding musicians from two continents. What unites these two great artists is their belief that music can articulate hope and give shelter in these divisive times. ‘Here is Where We Meet’ is at once a concert and a call for unity.
