Conjuring The Future

“Martineau puts Indigenous creative arts in the spotlight—and the world is watching.” – Kate Hildebrant

Jarrett Martineau, charismatic host of ‘Reclaimed’ on CBC curates a galaxy of potent voices from across Canada in this evening bursting with talent. From Inuit throat singing to 808-hip-hop beats, join us for an unforgettable immersive evening of genre-bending music and diasporic dancefloor beats. The night will feature multiple Vancouver premieres by some of Canada’s brightest stars in South Asian, Indigenous, Queer, Filipinx, and diasporic music and movement. As communities long excluded from popular culture reclaim spaces to be heard and be seen, Conjuring the Future makes space for many voices and bodies to weave, flow, and dance together. Come celebrate power and pride, and conjure our collective futures into being.

Featuring performances by:

*Humble the Poet: Toronto-bred YouTube star, hip-hop & spoken word artist, and best-selling author.

*PIQSIQ: Throat singing duo Inuksuk Mackay and Tiffany Kuliktana Ayalik of JUNO-winning group Quantum Tangle join forces with Ruby Singh and his multimedia soundscapes.

*HanHan: Rising Filipina-Canadian emcee and operating room nurse brings Pinoy power to raps in her native Tagalog and Cebuano languages.

*Sikh Knowledge: Dancefloor-filling, 100% homophobia-free blend of electronic, dancehall and roots reggae sounds by acclaimed Montreal-based, out and queer DJ Kanwar Anit Singh Saini aka Sikh Knowledge.

Dame Vinyl: Led by Squamish Nation member DJ Paisley Eva, DAME is a feminist DJ collective that mentors and creates opportunities for aspiring DJs, focusing on women, trans, and nonbinary folx.

Immigrant Lessons: A powerhouse local dance crew and art-dance-fashion collective, who combine their original work to advocate for marginalized communities.

Chimerik Collective: An internationally renowned media collective with arms stretching from Taipei to Vancouver, offering immersive and expansive visual accompaniment to the evening.
