Description

The practice of the Mitzvah Technique brings awareness and efficiency into ordinary movements of sitting, standing and walking. It facilitates a shift in posture that allows the body to find an effortless upright structure. The Itcush Method is the application of Mitzvah Technique that provides exercises for home practice and self-care.

Itcush Method – Foundations of Posture

Pre-registration drop-in with permission from instructor or previous experience in the Itcush Method.

This somatic class will focus on maintenance and injury rehabilitation by introducing tools for self-regulation and internal sensing. These practices have been shown to reduce pain and rebuild functional movement patterns. This class will focus on the foundational practices of the Itcush Method, one to one coaching, and shifting physical function.

No previous experience necessary wear layered clothing, socks and come prepared to work on the floor, chair and in standing.
Maximum 10 students.

Thursdays: January 18 – March 8 2018

This class is an evening movement class focusing on activating the principles of dynamic alignment inherent in the Itcush Method. It will cover exercises on the floor, chair and in standing and focus on establishing a fluid moving body. Integration of strength and mobility will challenge the participant to increase range of motion through function movement patterns. Prior experience in either the Itcush Method, a similar movement practice or dance is helpful.
Maximum 10 students.

About the Instructor:

Ashley Johnson is a dancer, dance educator and somatic practitioner. She holds a diploma in Dance from Grant MacEwan College (Edmonton), a bachelor of arts in Dance from the University of Calgary and has special training in Sport Science from the University of Hong Kong. Ashley certified in the Itcush Method and Mitzvah Technique with Amelia Itcush in 2011. In 2016 Ashley completed advanced training in the Mitzvah Technique with senior teacher Toshie Okabe (Toronto). She is fascinated with the compare and contrast model of co-teaching and continues to study a number of somatic and rehabilitative practices.
