Event description
The digital shift requests investments, training and support for farmers and SMEs. This event aims to support you on this journey.

About this event

The ongoing digital transformation leads to new ways of producing, new products and new business models for the agri-food sector. This industrial wave 4.0 offers significant opportunities as well as challenges for the agri-food value chain.

The Covid-19 pandemic has made this very clear. Both industry and the primary sector have to respond to unexpected challenges and use all means available to recover from the damages caused, to become more competitive and sustainable, but also to increase food safety.

Reliable and correct data across the food value chain are essential to overcome these challenges. Capturing, processing and analysing data are at the core of every digitalisation process. Furthermore, data have to be collected and shared from farm to fork, across the value chain.

This digital shift is not an evident hurdle to tackle. It requests investments, trainings and support, especially for farmers and SMEs.

What to Expect

With the physical & virtual event 'It’s all about data! Opportunities in the agri-food value chain' EIT Food CLC West, the ‘Smart Sensors 4 Agri-food’ Partnership and the INNOSUP -01 project S3FOOD, aim to support you on this journey.

During day one of the event, we will showcase real life use cases and display two living digital labs capabilities. For each lab, we will guide you through the relevant training they can provide. Physical attendees of the event will have the opportunity to visit one of the two labs:

The ILVO Living Lab Agrifood Technology helps companies and sectors with engineering agri-food processes. Mechanization and digitalization are often the key. The objective is to improve a range of processes within horticulture, arable farming, livestock farming and food processing, making them more sustainable and more efficient. During the demo, the possibilities of hyperspectral imaging and robotics for crop quality analyses and control will be demonstrated.

Food Pilot is the living lab of ILVO and Flanders' FOOD. The aim is to help companies, labs, authorities, etc. with challenges in agri-food, such as improving food products or production processes and trouble shooting. The Food Pilot has more than 50 semi-industrial production machines for testing new recipes or production techniques. In addition, several of the machines are equipped with sensors and provide the possibility to gather data on the processes and product parameters.

On day two of the event, we will present an overview of funding opportunities at both the host organisations as well as European programs. This is followed by virtual matchmaking sessions between different organisations and stakeholders.
