Description

It's Time to Talk about Mental Health

We all have experienced mental health in some form or capacity and chances are we know someone who has experienced it as well. Mental health is a sensitive topic and it can be challenging to address without the proper education or knowledge. It can be even harder to figure out what resources exist within our community to help aid individuals going through this tough time. However, the first step is to break the silence.

Through a case study, registered nurses Maneet Chahal and Jasmeet Chagger will facilitate a discussion on examining the community’s view of mental health, common misconceptions, early warning signs and resources in the Region of Peel. As a group we will get to see first hand how practitioners in the field support individuals going through mental health issues followed by a Q&A.

Participants are reminded that this is a safe space for all to share their experiences of mental health.

This event is for anyone:

  • looking to understand what mental health is and how to navigate the sector
  • looking to understand how to help someone who may be experiencing mental health issues
  • wants to be part of a growing community that wants to find solutions for existing issues in the mental health environment

Facilitators: Maneet Chahal & Jasmeet Chagger

Maneet Chahal is a registered nurse working in the community mental health sector in the Region of Peel. When she isn't on the front lines helping clients, Maneet is working on graduate education in the Masters of Nursing program at McMaster University.

Jasmeet Chagger is also registered nurse working in the community mental health sector in the Region of Peel. She has prior experience working with Supportive Housing in Peel and the Centre for Addiction & Mental Health.
