APPLY TO PRESENT AT THE UAS RESEARCH & DESIGN SYMPOSIUM THROUGH THIS PAGE

Present an innovative research or design project that addresses a problem facing UAS tech or the UAS industry at large. Awards and recognition for top teams.

The UAS R&D Symposium will consist of 20 technical conference presentations on cutting edge UAS technology or business ideas through post-secondary institutions, start-ups, or other projects led by innovators of all ages and backgrounds.

A summary of these details is provided below, however all applicants and competitors should refer to the official Competition Guidelines at the link above.



Application Process & Eligibility

The UAS R&D Symposium is aimed toward Bachelor, Master, and PhD students working on thesis, senior/capstone design projects, extracurricular design clubs, or designs for UAS competitions, as well as toward early stage start-ups working on innovative technologies.

To apply, please fill out the registration form by 23h59 EST on November 21, 2016. Accepted competitors will be notified by 23h59 EST on November 25, 2016, and required to register for the conference by 23h59 EST on December 2, 2016.

There is NO additional cost to compete beside conference registration! Discounted tickets available for students.

Projects covering any topic involving UAS or UAS-related technology may be entered into this competition. Examples of eligible projects include:

- An entire new drone system for performing some particular mission
- Advanced software for payload or image stabilization
- Big Data analytics for data collected from drones
- Mapping and localization techniques using a custom or off-the-shelf drone
- A novel sensor technology or technology that has been modified to be used aboard drones
- Improved long-range telemetry or C2 link technology
- New power supply or power management systems to improve drone endurance
- Technologies being developed for another competition, such as AUVSI SUAS, SAE AeroDesign, IMAV, the UAV Challenge, USC SUAS, or others
- Bachelor, master or doctoral theses or design projects



Logistics

The UAS R&D Symposium will take place in Salons A & B from 2-4:30PM on December 6, with an awards ceremony starting at 4PM on December 7. Floorplan is available at uavshow.ca. Further details on setup and presentation testing will be provided to confirmed presenters.

Presenters wishing to bring equipment involving moving parts or electricity must state these items in the application form and these items must be given explicit approval by The Sky Guys prior to the conference.



Awards

All prize money to be sponsored by a major academic, governmental, or industrial partner with an interest in the award criteria.

Best Innovator & Presenter Award
Recognizes exceptional innovation balanced with exceptional communication skills. Comes with 1 000 CAD monetary prize.

Runner-Up Innovator & Presenter Award
Recognizes exceptional innovation balanced with exceptional communication skills. Comes with 750 CAD monetary prize.

Outstanding Innovation Award
Recognizes exceptional technical innovation to address a significant problem in drone technology or the drone industry at large. Comes with 250 CAD monetary prize.

Commercial Potential Award
Bestowed upon the team whose project is determined by a consensus of the judges to have the greatest potential to create or disrupt large markets and generate significant revenues. Comes with 250 CAD monetary prize.

Certificate of Honourable Mention
Bestowed upon the teams in the top 15th percentile of scores. Recognizes the most outstanding innovations and innovators.

Certificate of Meritorious Participation
Bestowed upon all accepted teams by default, for having qualified through a rigorous selection process to compete in the UAS Research & Design Symposium itself.




About IUAVS and the University Pavilion at large:

The annual International UAV Show--taking place Dec. 6-7, 2016 at the Enercare Centre in Toronto--is an industry-focused conference uniting some 3000 individuals representing Canadian and global organizations active in the drone space, including commercial operators, aerospace and defence contractors, regulatory bodies, as well as clients across the many industries that drones now serve.
