EASTER TIME IN JAMAICA & THE FOOD IS DIVINE.
At this time of year Easter Buns (sweet doughy loaves , spiced with cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg, and bursting with raisins, currants and other dried fruits) are piled high on Jamaican grocery store shelves. GOOD FRIDAY (April 2, this year) usually means Escoveitch Fish served with Bammy, Festival or Rice & Peas, and washed down with good Ginger Beer.
SO, April 2, Good Friday, JamaicanEats magazine is serving up Food Boxes brimming with the luscious flavours of Jamaica at Easter time.

*Bammy, a type of (hearty and satisfying flat bread) made with grated cassava. It's a Jamaican favourite that is also popular in other parts of the Caribbean. It is usually soaked in milk then fried, grilled, steamed or baked.
** Festival is like a party in your mouth. It's like the Jamaican fried dumpling, but with a hint of sweetness.

In the spirit of the many Chinese Jamaicans whose origins are from the southern region of China known as Hakka. Chinese immigrants, largely men, started arriving in Jamaica in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Other Chinese immigrants came in the 1930s and ‘40s.
