Jane's Walk - Bringing the Linear Parks Back to Life
Fri, 5 May 2017, 1:00 PM – 1:30 PM EDT
How do you bring a park back to life? What about a series of parks? The Linear Parks are a series of three parks, just off of Yonge Street and south of Bloor. Originally a series of parking lots placed on the roof of the Yonge Subway, the parks now form a trail that many people in the area walk through on a day to day basis. Somewhere along the way however, the parks became disconnected from the city. As people stopped congregating in the parks, and started only using them only as a walking route, they became disconnected from the heart of the city they occupy.
In March 2017, Friends of the Linear Park was founded to advocate for improving the condition of the parks, activate them with activities, and reimagine the ways the parks can be used. On May 5, 6 and 7, join the founder of Friends of the Linear Parks, Nikolas Koschany, as he gives a walking tour as part of the Jane's Walks happening that weekend in honour of Jane Jacobs. During the walk, INikolas will be asking for ideas on how to improve the parks, and what kinds of activities Friends of the Linear Parks should pursue. After the walk, feel free to join him for coffee and further chat if you have further questions or ideas.
