Event description
Musical vignettes about 400 years of Upper Canadian history in the unique setting of Montgomery's Inn. Includes stage actors and live band.

About this Event

Two-time JUNO nominee and best-selling historian Jason Wilson presents Sumach Roots: musical vignettes inspired by four centuries of Upper Canadian history. Half-play, half-concert, Sumach Roots offers up an invitation to, as the poet Burns said: “see ourselves as others see us”. The live show – which includes Jason’s band, as well as award-winning actors Herbie Barnes, Sara Moyle and Jim Armstrong – takes audiences on a bold and innovative exploration of Toronto’s evolution. Musically, Wilson and company draws from a deep well of sounds—from traditional British folk to bebop jazz and classic reggae—in order to tell the stories of those who built Toronto, both literally and culturally.

Enjoy a specially produced sumach-infused cocktail, created by chef Brock Shepherd followed by a lamp lit tour of the Inn. Montgomery's Inn is one of 10 Toronto History Museums which explore where Toronto's many pasts, presents and futures meet. The museum highlights the historical role played by the inn as a tavern, farm, local gathering place and community hub in the development and history of Etobicoke.
