Description

Jasper Transitions with Mark Jinks Photography and Deviant Optiks Photography

Join us in Jasper National Park this October as the park starts changing over to more of a Winter Landscape. Historically, the last week of October we will potentially see some snowfall around open water lakes.

During this 4 day workshop you will learn how to compose, shoot and deliver top notch images that you will be proud of. The workshop is limited to just 10 participants to ensure everyone receives hands on guidance from the 2 workshop instructors. The instructors will guide you through their processes, from preparation, to execution in the field, to post processing in Adobe Lightroom & Photoshop. Master concepts such as focus stacking, long exposure through the proper use of neutral density filters, bracketing, metering a scene correctly, and much more!

We will visit a vast array of locations in the area that are very well known to your workshop instructors from years of experience in the area. In order to get the best light for our scenes, we will be taking full advantage of sunrise and sunset golden hour. Sunset will be just after 630pm and sunrise is at 830am. After shooting sunset we will break for dinner and then head back out for some night photography.

What Is Involved:

We will meet up at Chateau Jasper Hotel lobby for introductions, followed by a sunset shoot at a lake near the town. Full itineraries and a questionnaire to determine how best we can help you develop your photography skills will be emailed to participants once they have signed up.

Participants should have some knowledge of their camera before the workshop as this will be catered more towards a location tour than learning camera basics.

Wildlife - If we have a chance to view wildlife safely without disturbing it, or disrupting traffic, then we shall, but the main focus of this workshop will be landscape photography. You will have free time during the day to catch up on rest, do some shopping, or exploring on your own for a few hours.

What to Bring:

    • A DSLR or mirrorless camera with removable lenses
    • A variety of lenses, wide angle and telephoto (preferably 24mm or wider for full frame, 16mm or wider for crop cameras), fast lenses (f2.8 or faster is ideal for night photography)
    • Extra camera batteries
    • Extra memory cards
    • A sturdy tripod
    • A remote shutter trigger would be an asset
    • Waterproof/rubber boots would be an asset for standing in streams
    • A set of Neutral Density filters would also be an asset
    • A good layer of clothes for unpredictable mountain park temperatures. October can see swings from -10C to 10C so it is best to layer and remove layers as the day warms up.
    • Any special medication you require. The townsite of Jasper has most amenities you would need if necessary
    • A laptop for editing photos with Adobe Creative Cloud pre-installed (I would recommend downloading a free trial version a week before the workshop if you are unsure if you will continue using this software after)
    • A positive mindset, eagerness to learn and have fun!
